National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution; gift of Elizabeth L. Howie and John F. Marshall Conserved with funds from the Smithsonian Women's Committee John F. Marshall, Washington, D.C., and Elizabeth L. Howie; gift 1966, accessioned 1967 to NPG. Note: The donors were related in some way to the artist. In a letter 31 January 1967 Charles Nagel refers to Mrs. Howie as “your sister”; on early catalog cards they are the artist’s “niece and nephew.” The website for the Ohio Historical Society describes them as foster children of the artist [Wilbur Siebert Collection].
