Following the completion of Langlais’s Fulbright year in Oslo, he and Helen traveled to Spain for a belated honeymoon, where they rented an apartment in the fishing village of Cadaqués. During their month there, Langlais produced drawings and paintings that reveal an interest in Cubism and a fascination with the sunbathed architecture of the Costa Brava. Untitled (Buildings and Sky, Cadaqués) demonstrates Langlais’s keen eye for the intersecting shapes and patterns of the built landscape, enhanced in this case by pellucid Mediterranean light.
