The process of building sculptures in his backyard over the course of many days and weeks often resulted in an attachment to them, even when they were intended for other sites. “I miss them,” Langlais said, “they leave a big hole that I guess only I can see and I have to start something else to fill it.” Playground Group was originally commissioned for a park in Kansas City, Missouri, but Langlais created a second version for his own property, which was a favorite of visiting children.
