Chief Black Bird

Chief Black Bird is likely related to a much larger sculpture that Weinman created for the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. The large-scale sculpture is a highly complex, multifigure composition titled Destiny of the Red Man. The model for Chief Black Bird, an Oglala Sioux chief, met Weinman while performing with a Wild West show that toured the East Coast.
