The Seniors Project (28)

The Korean-born, New York–based artist Nikki S. Lee uses photography to document here camouflaged absorption into social groups. Here, in the company of two elderly women—Lee is the first figure on the left—she assumes the role of a senior citizen awaiting a city bus. In other instances she has posed as a drag queen, a swing dancer, a hip-hop fan, and a young urban professional, among other guises, in each case situated in a group of people whose presence either aids her disguise or contributes to its unraveling.
