Rattlesnake

Sculpture by Frederic Remington, Rattlesnake, 1904. Signed on pedestal. The sculpture epitomizes the sense of action, drama, and danger that had made Remington famous by 1905, when he first cast this sculpture of a horse and rider surprised by a rattlesnake in their path. Three years later he reworked the composition, extending the cowboy’s right arm as and titling his upper body forward as you see in this version, creating a more violent sense of movement.
